We all have our morning routine, everyday products that will enhance our better features and make us look like a more put together version of ourselves and ,of course, some of them are more important than others. I’ve put together a list of products that I think are a crucial part of doing your make-up, wether it’s a natural everyday look or a full glam look.
Foundation is the most significant part to get right when it comes to nailing down your everyday look. There are so many different aspects to choosing your foundation, do I want a light, medium or full coverage? is the shade too dark? What’s my undertone? Finding a formula that you feel comfortable wearing is a good place to start. Throughout the years I’ve found myself wanting my make-up to look more natural, especially the skin. Why hide imperfections you don’t have?
When my skin is playing nice (minimal pimples and little to no texture) the M.A.C face and body foundation won’t fail me. There is a reason why it’s a staple in most make-up artists kits and it’s a good one. With a water based formula that is transfer free and easily buildable it’ll suit any skin type, wether you have dry, oily or combination skin. It leaves the skin with a satin finish and with just one layer it will diffuse the appearance of discolouration while still looking like skin. You don’t have to worry about it blocking your pores since it is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not block your pores or cause breakouts, which is personally my favourite thing about this foundation. M.A.C products have yet to fail me, and if you are a certified make-up artist you can apply for a M.A.C pro card that gives you a huge discount of all their products worldwide.
The NARS natural radiant longwear foundation has become my holy grail, one I can’t live without, in the past couple of months. From the first time I tried it, it has not failed me. On a day to day basis I like to apply it in a very thin layer all over my skin to even out any discolouration, and since the foundation is a semi-matte finish I find that I don’t need to set it with powder. But sometimes a girl needs some extra coverage and in that case I like to lather it on in a thicker layer and set it with powder so it doesn’t move around throughout the day. It dosen’t matter how many layers I cake on, this foundation never makes me look like Jim Carry in the mask. Finding your shade shouldn’t be a problem since it has 33 skin-matching shades, in various different undertones for all women and men wether you have a fair complexion or a beautiful dark complexion.
Concealer is equally as important to get right as foundation. It can sometime replace your foundation when there are just not enough hours in the day. Finding what suits you best can be hard since there are so many different textures and formulas out there.
As you have probably gathered NARS is one of the top brands I go for when I’m looking for bullet proof skin products. The NARS soft matte complete concealer is and always will be a part of my collection, a ride or die I guess you could say. Not only does it cover everything you need it to with a light layer but it also has long term benefits if you use it regularly. Vitamin A,C and E, hyaluronic acid and a collagen-boosting peptides is amongst the ingredients of this amazing concealer, making it so that over time the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation will fade.
When I have the urge to go full glam the Urban Decay all nighter waterproof full-coverage concealer is a great option. It’s a liquid, full coverage concealer compared to cream texture and a natural finish from the NARS one. For those of you who love to use a beauty sponge from time to time, the all nighter concealer is your best option since it dries quickly and requires a lot of blending.
When doing your make-up, usually you’ll focus on one thing, e.g. the eyes, the lips or the skin. Since my eyes are such a unique shade of blue, my focus will usually be on them. If eyebrows frame your face, mascara frames your eyes.
My parents blessed me with a full set of long eyelashes and when I want just a little definition to my lashes I’ll reach for the M.A.C extended play gigablack mascara. I’ll always use it on my lower lashes, no matter what, but when I’m having a “no make-up make-up day” I just love the effect that it gives to my lashes. It gives me the appearance of thicker and longer lashes with little to no effort and still keeps them natural looking. If you don’t like wearing a lot of make-up or are just a beginner, I think you’ll find the M.A.C extended play gigablack mascara suit you.
Even though I don’t necessarily need a lot of definition to my lashes, there are days when I just can’t be bothered to wear false lashes and the M.A.C extended play just doesn’t to the trick. Maybelline has a great selection of all different types of mascaras and where you might not have the money to buy a M.A.C or a Lancome one (or would rather spend your money elsewhere) Maybelline is a great, affordable option. I have tried a bunch of their mascaras but one that stands out for me is the Lash sensational washable mascara.
Nothing will make you look more healthy than a little bit of bronzer. This product will come as no surprise since it is talked about all over the internet. Yes you guessed it, the M.A.C give me sun! mineralize skinfinish natural is something I’ll never leave the house without. Applied with a light hand and a big fluffy brush it’ll give you the most gorgeous glow and healthily looking skin without leaving you looking like an Oompa Loompa. instead you’ll look like you just spend a couple of weeks on a sunny beach, every persons dream.
After getting rid of any shadows on my face I like to put a little bit of structure back and that’s when I’ll reach for the M.A.C blush in Taupe. I know it’s not technically a bronzer but I had to include a contour products, since a huge amount of people will use a bronzer to contour the face. With this cool toned blush you’ll be able to create a beautiful, natural contour especially if applied with a angled, dense fluffy brush. Since the shade is so universal it will work with any type of skin colour which is a huge plus in my book, especially on those days where I have multiple clients.
With every year that passes I like my eyebrows to look more and more natural. I used to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pomade a lot when I was younger but as I’ve grown older I find myself reaching more for a brow pencil. We all know that Anastasia Beverly Hills is the ultimate brand when it comes to brows and I don’t think that it will shock you that the Brow Wiz is one of my favourite eyebrow products, something I always have to have in my collection. With a spoolie on one end and a tiny brow pencil on the other, it’s a fullproof product. You can mimmic brow hairs with the amazingly small pencil and brush them through with the spoolie leaving them super fluffy and natural. Even if you’re wanting that instagram brow you’ll be able to achieve that with a heavier hand and a little bit of concealer.
For a super quick, natural brow the M.A.C shape + shade brow tint is your guy. I don’t tend to use the powder at all but the pencil itself gives you a beautiful effect, with a light hand and hairlike strokes you can achieve a my brow but better. I usually use two shades, spiked and taupe. I’ll use spike from the middle of my brow all the way to the end of the tail and taupe in the front of the brow to give it more dimension, giving me the natural version of the instagram brow.
